Translation & Privacy
-
The Translate app and System-wide translation are designed to protect your information and enable you to choose what you share.
-
The audio and text (including text recognized in images) you choose to have translated may be sent to Apple to process your requests, but are not stored by Apple, unless you opt in to Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence. Your requests are associated with a random, rotating identifier, not your Apple Account or email address.
You can download languages to your device. When the languages you are translating between have both been downloaded, processing takes place on your device. Live Translation with AirPods, available in supported languages and regions, requires you to have languages downloaded so all processing is on device.
Translate should not be relied on in circumstances where you could be harmed or injured, in high-risk situations, for navigation, or for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition.
You can help to improve Translate and other language processing functionality in Apple products and services, such as Siri, by allowing Apple to store and review your text inputs and the transcripts of your audio interactions by opting in to Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence. To do so, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and tap to turn on Improve Siri & Dictation or Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence.
